Creating a Reliable, No-Touch Service Channel Invoice Automation for Metrix
Creating a Reliable, No-Touch Service Channel Invoice Automation for Metrix

By Makepath Facilities Team

Since late 2025, Makepath has been building a custom integration for Metrix to automate data flows between ServiceChannel and Service Fusion, two platforms central to how Metrix manages field service operations for the majority of their client work. We wrote about the initial integration here, covering how we automated check-ins, check-outs, status updates, notes, and job creation between the two systems.

We’re excited to share the latest addition to this integration: automated invoice syncing from Service Fusion to ServiceChannel.

The Problem: Manual Invoice Entry, One Line Item at a Time

Metrix’s invoicing workflow had a painful bottleneck. Their team creates invoices in Service Fusion, which sync automatically to QuickBooks for their own accounting. But Metrix’s client uses ServiceChannel for billing, so every invoice also needed to be manually recreated in ServiceChannel.

This wasn’t a simple copy-paste. ServiceChannel invoices require detailed line items: hours worked per technician (broken down by skill level and rate), travel reimbursements, material costs, service charges, markup, and more. The Metrix back office team had to pull each of these details from Service Fusion and enter them one by one into ServiceChannel.

The result was a process that was slow, tedious, and error-prone. A single invoice could take several minutes to transfer, and with dozens of invoices flowing through daily, the time added up fast. Mistakes like a mistyped rate or a missed line item could delay payment or require rework.

The Solution: Automatic Invoice Creation in Seconds

Our integration now monitors Service Fusion for newly created invoices. When a new invoice is created in Service Fusion, the integration automatically detects the new invoice and creates a corresponding invoice in ServiceChannel, complete with all the correct line items and notes.

The entire process completes within seconds of the invoice being created in Service Fusion. Built-in validations ensure that line item totals match the invoice total, that labor entries have valid time ranges, and that amounts use proper currency precision. If the automation detects something that doesn’t line up, such as an unsupported labor rate or a work order in an incompatible state, the integration flags it for manual review.

The Impact

What used to take the Metrix team hours of manual data entry each day now happens automatically. The invoicing process is faster and more reliable, freeing up the back-office team to focus on higher-value work.

“The invoice automation was a game-changer for our team. What used to take us hours of manual entry every day now happens in seconds — the invoices just show up in ServiceChannel, correct and complete. It’s sped up our entire billing cycle.“
Nick Mondello, CEO of Metrix

What’s Next

The invoice syncing feature is just the latest addition to a comprehensive integration that covers the full lifecycle of a work order, from job creation in Service Fusion when a work order is accepted in ServiceChannel, through status updates, check-ins and check-outs, notes, and now invoicing.

We continue to work with the Metrix team to refine and expand the integration as their needs evolve.
